DIY Donut Stands

Donuts and halloween just go together, don't you think? Well we have made a few stands over the years and this year we leveled it up with some paint and candle stick holders. You read that right....come find out how we did that?! ;)

This craft turned out to be really fun! I made them with my 3 year old son and 88 year old grandpa, Grandpa Joe! If you are not new here then you have heard us talk about Grandpa Joe, Brooke’s grandpa. He is the greatest and such an example to me. I love going to his garage and creating. We have made so many fun things over the years as I have grown up and our latest will have you drooling! (More on that later…) For now please enjoy our DIY donut stands! You can male them as easy or difficult as you’d like but it’s the perfect time to make them with Halloween coming around.

Materials You Need:

DIY Donut Stands:

  • Wood

    • This is your time to shine! I found already cut pieces from Michaels and Joanns but I also cut some to size my self. Whatever your tools will allow you is what you should go with.

  • Dowel Rods 0.5”

  • Drill press/hand drill (drill to the same size as your dowel rod with attachment)

  • Wooden candle stick holders

  • Paint

  • Sander

  • Saw/sander (have Lowes cut them for you or if you break them down on your own just sand them to smooth)

During the pandemic my grandpa kept busy and custom made over 45 cutting boards for everyone in his family! He made them specific to each child, grandchild and great grandchild based on style, design and colors of wood. He did this all by feel. No measuring and he said there are no mistakes because “it dosen’t count if you can’t see what your doing?!”-Grandpa Joe Being legally blind has not stopped him from enjoying his favorite hobby’s.

DIRECTIONS :

I didn’t use any glue here but if you feel your dowels don’t stick as well or your holes accidently got too big then glue will be your best friend. Michales and Joanns have pre-cut square wood pices that are really easy to work with. I wanted some of mine taller so I also made some square wood pieces myself but for the candle sticks all of those pieces came from Amazon and the tops were from Joanns and Michaels. I drilled the holes in the tops of the pre cut pieces slightly larger than the holes in the candle stick holders because it was easier to slide the rod through but the tighter fit in the candle stick base made for a strong holder and more secure.

I love spending time with Grandpa Joe and all the things we have made together will act as memories and keep sakes for a life time! He’s always so willing to help and support me. Our Lowes and Home Depot runs always include a soda or hot dog run and his attention to detail is something I really admire. His creativity has sparked mine and I’ll be forever grateful for him in my life. I hit the grandpa jackpot thats for sure!
