Puffles

Puffles. Bubble waffles. Egg waffles. Many names for a rather simple dessert. Whatever you choose to call them, they will easily become the talk of the town at any gathering you are hosting.

These delicious waffles have been around for a long time but more recently have become quite a party favorite around our house. I was first introduced to them at Cauldron Ice Cream. We went there 2 years ago with our good friends while on a couples trip to San Diego. (Side note we have our same couples trip coming up in 3 weeks to Cabo….no kids allowed. ;)) Their shop was on my list to try while we were there and boy oh boy was I so glad we did! They serve their ice cream in a waffle. A puffle waffle to be exact. It’s warm, crunchy and sometimes even coated with a little cinnamon sugar just to add flavor and it’s the perfect compliment to your ice cream!

Chocolate or Sherbert?

We did both and your toppings are endless. You can really have some fun with how you present this waffle. I found some really cute functional cups which held it great! See the link below for those. You could also display them unrolled and just flat or even in a disposable food tray, also linked below.

So fun to customize your own flavors and toppings. You want extra marshmallows?! No problem!

Taco Style!!

I came home and a month later celebrated my youngest son’s 1st birthday party with puffles. My talented mom, Jolene over at @jo.c.home found an amazing waffle iron and lucky for me I was able to borrow it. Her recipe is a tried and true one and has the perfect amount of sweet to it. She has also done so many cute things with this and even added fruit and custard to it instead of ice cream. Our favorite is to serve it warm with powdered sugar! Here is her recipe that we have used many times and love. Thanks mom!

Puffle Recipe

1 C. Flour

1 t. Baking Powder

1 t. Tapioca Starch

1 T. Custard Powder

2/3 C. Sugar

2 Eggs

2 T. Vegetable Oil

2 T. Evaporated Milk

5 oz. Water

1 t. Vanilla Extract

β€œIce Cream Solves Everything!”

I think the best part of these is how versatile they can be. You can customize your fillings and toppings and enjoy it however your family or friends best like it.

Pro tip: use squeeze bottles when putting your batter onto the iron. Less mess.
